Of the 24 starters in the 1933 Derby, the first four finishers were Lord Derby’s Hyperion, Sir Hugo Cunliffe-Owen’s King Salmon, Mr. Victor Emmanuel’s Statesman, and Lord Durham’s Scarlet Tiger. Run on May 31, the conditions at Epsom were ideal and the course was on the slightly firm side. The weather was delightful and the Royal Box included the King, Queen, Prince of Wales, Duke and Duchess of York, Princess Royal (Countess of Haywood), and Prince George
